The Nation's Capital--Making It Easier For Thugs

Here’s a brilliant plan to ensure that the murder rate in Washington, DC continues to escalate: go door to door and ask residents if the police can come in and search your home for guns. The actual searches, which are set to begin in two weeks, will start in the Washington Highlands neighborhood in Southeast. Metro PD plans to continue the searches in parts of Northeast and Northwest. Officers will go door-to-door requesting entry into homes. If granted permission by the resident (how will they know who can grant permission?), the officers will search the premises for weapons. If drugs or other illegal contraband are in plain sight, that will be confiscated, too. Residents will not be criminally charged for any illegal activity — not for possessing guns, drugs or even for housing violations.. The police assure us that any weapons seized will not cause the homes’ occupants to be charged with any crime—it’s all about amnesty and safety.

Yeah…not only is it illegal to own a gun in the most dangerous city in America, but those that keep one in their home to protect their families from home invading thugs, are now at risk of losing the only thing that keeps them alive. That’s a great plan Chief Lanier. Now the knuckle draggers have no worries at all; they fear neither the cops nor the citizens, for now only the bad guys are armed. What can our government do for us next? I wonder why those that work in DC don’t live in DC…?

Over the years every group that ever came to our country was faced with huge hurdles. On this St. Patrick's Day, it seems only fitting to re-visit the problems that Catholics and Irish immigrants had to face and conquer in order to survive. One such example... In the state of Connecticut in the early 1800s, Catholics were not allowed to purchase land. Yet they were expected to join with the rest of the populace in paying a tax for the support of the Congregational Church. Episcopals, Baptists, and Quakers were all exempt. However as bad as that seems, it paled in comparison to what the Irish faced in their own country. It was a land of enforced poverty, few farmers owned their land, and the landlords charged such unreasonably high rents that there was a pall of despair and hopelessness that settled over the Irish countryside. Even before the "potato blight" of 1845 which led to the Great Famine, Irishmen were facing the sad reality that the country held no future for them. Thus, we experienced a mass exodus, not unlike what happened in the Bible. So to those who think that their lot is unique, or who think that the world owes them a living, take a look at just one people--the Irish. They rose above their problems through hard work and prayer, just as other people have been doing since our forefathers came to America.

Death By A Thousand Paper Cuts--More Folks That Just Don't Get It

For the last couple of months at least two or three Muslim women have had one of the gyms at Harvard University all to themselves. That's because one student complained that Muslim women could not work out in coed gyms (of which all of Harvard's gyms are) because of their strict religious code. So Harvard's PC, knee-jerk reaction is to have the vast majority of students suffer so that three women can work out. Utter nonsense! This latest success by Islam to take over America's culture, is not unlike the foot baths that have been installed at some of America's airport to accommodate the call to prayer that Muslims must answer. Each time our culture acquiesces to these demands, a little bit of our way of life disappears and the Muslims gain a larger foothold on what our country was founded on. It's like death by a thousand paper cuts--not really painful one at a time, but after a while you are ripped to shreds. Thanks Harvard, you are truly an American icon.

Not Diversity Again...

DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff was in front of the House Judiciary Committee yesterday to discuss his inept handling of the immigration problem. However, the hearing quickly turned into a diversity discussion as two Democrats chided him for bringing 10 white staff members along. (Someone tell me how this relates to the topic.) Chertoff quickly quipped that the two Congressmen, both of whom were black, had no clue as to the diversity of his staff, pointing out that of the 10 staff members with him, two staffers were immigrants and a third was Hispanic. Mr. Chertoff also had a female officer on his security detail. Apparently the two Democrats feel that only black equals diversity. Must we always get bogged down with race? And must only Blacks be included as diverse? Get a life people, and focus on the problem that you called the hearing on in the first place!
